Subject. This article discusses the participation of retail business in the circular economy. Objectives. The article aims to compare the development of the Russian and international legal frameworks in the field of circular economy. Methods. For the study, we considered the regulatory legal acts of the European Union, China, and the Russian Federation. Results. The article reveals that EU has the most effective regulatory legal acts. The most influential Russian environmental legal act is the Federal Law on Industrial and Consumer Waste. Conclusions. The participation of retail enterprises in the circular economy contributes to environmental protection and creates new opportunities for business.
