Social support measures for the unemployed during the coronavirus pandemic in Russia

Subject. This article discusses social support measures of the Russian Government for unemployed people during the coronavirus pandemic, such as increase in unemployment benefits, free professional retraining in different professions, etc.
Objectives. The article aims to analyze changes in social support measures that helped the State stabilize the situation in the labor market during the pandemic.
Methods. For the study, we used methods of systems and comparative analyses and the structural and functional approach.
Results. The article describes social support in Russia and abroad, analyses the main indicators of the Russian labor market in the period of COVID-19 pandemic, and formulates the most important problems and the role of the State in the implementation of social support for unemployed people.
Conclusions. The Russian Government failed to overcome all the negative effects of the pandemic, but it managed to hold back the open unemployment growth.
