State support as an investment tool for the development of maritime cargo transportation

Subject. This article focuses on development of logistics as an important driver for maintaining entrepreneurial activity and ensuring the implementation of national interests.
Objectives. The article aims to consider the main aspects of State policy in the field of development of maritime cargo transportation, and identify areas that require additional government efforts.
Methods. For the study, we used a comparative analysis of sea freight and other methods of cargo delivery.
Results. The article reveals the current trends in the maritime trade market and the role of the Russian Government in development of sea cargo transportation. It also analyzes the indicators of State financing of Federal projects related to the modernization of maritime transport.
Conclusions. Maritime transport is in dire need of additional Government funding. Implementation of State programmes requires large investments in the coming decades.
