Subject. This article discusses the issues of ensuring economic security. Objectives. The article aims to analyze the ratio of efficiency and safety in the conditions of localization of production. Methods. For the study, I used the general scientific research methods. Results. The article differentiates supply chains restructuring both by industry and country. It finds that production gets localized under the influence of increased volatility of the economic environment and due to the development of technologies. Conclusions. When analyzing the localization of production, it is necessary to take into account its long-term impact on the development of the economy and its future competitiveness.
