Subject. The article addresses the growing socioeconomic inequality of the population, deterioration of demographic and environmental situation in many regions of Russia. Objectives. The study aims at analyzing the theoretical and methodological foundations to assess the quality of life of the population, developing recommendations to reduce the level of identified threats to economic security. Methods. The study employs general scientific methods (comparison, analogy) and special research methods (horizontal and vertical analysis, indicative method, method of normalized estimates, etc). Results. When assessing the quality of life of the population, it is necessary to take into account, first of all, such indicators as the level of health of the population, compliance of consumption of various food products with standards, natural increase, healthy life expectancy, housing affordability, employment, level of education, and environmental safety. Conclusions. Implementation of energy saving principles in production and business processes increases productivity, makes regions (towns) more attractive for investment and competitive. Improving the quality of life is ensured through the integration of modern IT technologies into the infrastructure of settlements, which allows the management system to automatically find optimal solutions and leads to significant resource savings.
