Subject. This article considers and discusses the documents of strategic planning in the energy sector. Objectives. The article aims to assess the relevance of the strategic planning system for the transformation of the energy sector of the Russian economy. Methods. For the study, I used the methods of comparative analysis and generalization. Results. The article reveals the need to adjust the country's current energy strategy. Conclusions. New sanctions of Western countries against Russia can have a significant impact on the planned values of a number of key indicators of the energy strategy and the energy sector's development.
