Subject. This article deals with the issues related to Russia's energy security and the transition to renewable energy sources.
Objectives. The article aims to explore the global trends in changing the structure of energy sources.
Methods. For the study, we used analysis, abstraction, and analogy.
Results. The article presents a scenario for changing the structure of energy sources in the world and Russia and proposes the necessary steps and activities to improve the efficiency of coal use in Russia.
Conclusions. The article concludes that sustainable energy development is possible only if a balance of traditional and renewable energy sources is achieved.
