Importance The cartleization of the economy and its dissemination pose a significant threat to the national security and future socio-economic development of the Russian Federation. This situation should be tackled, requiring governmental authorities and the public to continue countering unlawful activities of cartels.
Objectives The research examines whether the Russian economy is exposed to the cartelization threat. I also identify and systematize directions and areas that are mostly exposed to cartelizing.
Methods The article analyzes scholarly sources, regulatory documents on cartels and antitrust regulations in Russia.
Results I overview statistical data on violation of antitrust law and evaluate the existing situation in the Russian economy from perspectives of the possible cartelization threat. I also systematize adverse effects of cartels and identify how they may disseminate.
Conclusions and Relevance Currently, the Russian economy is significantly exposed to the cartelization threat. In the long run, it is very important to continue bringing up the sound competition in Russia and improve the regulatory framework in terms of cartel counteraction. I suggest supplementing the Strategy for Economic Security and qualify the cartelization as one of the main challenges and threats to the economic security. The findings can be useful for relevant governmental authorities to outline cartelization counteraction measures. The conclusions can be used for R&D purposes.
