Importance The article reviews how processes of globalization and regionalization determine the specifics and critical difference of globalization, globalism and regionalization. Objectives I conduct an analytical overview and analysis of factors and aspects that shaped the contemporary architecture of geopolitical relations and the system of international security during the globalization and regionalization. I analyze factors and aspects that configure the globalization process and influence the national, homeland and international security systems, considering alternative scenarios of the contemporary society's development. Methods The research draws upon proceedings of Russian and foreign experts majoring in globalization and regionalization issues, and proceedings of researchers focusing on international, national and homeland security. I applied methods of scientific, comparative and matching analysis, general scientific methods of theoretical, empirical cognition, and expert assessment method. Results I review the substance of such phenomena as globalization and regionalization, the extent and mechanism of their impact on the security at various levels. The structural and institutional crisis of the global geopolitical and geoeconomic systems was proved to cause the turbulence of the previous system of international security and keep the system at the bifurcation point, thus necessitating immediate measures of the international community and forming a new architecture of the global security. Conclusions and Relevance I substantiate the need to reform the existing geopolitical and geoeconomic systems and subsequently prevent contemporary challenges and threats in international relations from escalating. The proposed statements can be used in researches into the methodology for setting up a system of national and homeland security.
