Development of the IT-industry as a growth trend in the knowledge economy: Analyzing the evidence from the USA and Russia

Importance Considering the rapidly growing economy of knowledge and vying for distribution markets, it becomes especially important to obtain first-hand information. The development of IT?industry and integration of information technologies are regarded as growth trends of the knowledge economy. Under these circumstances, it is relevant to search for ways of effective development of the knowledge economy and IT-industry as its component.
Objectives The research determines growth trends of the knowledge economy, unveils what specific aspects are associated with the development and implementation of import substitution programs designated to overcome technological dependence of key sectors of the Russian economy in critical areas.
Methods The research involves results obtained from analysis of IT-industry practices, development and integration of information technologies, illustrating activities of entities in the USA and Russia. The research relies upon methods of statistical analysis.
Results We specified the definition of information space, studied possible approaches to solving the issue of growing information and creating the intellectual nucleus of the IT industry, illustrating the evidence of the USA and Russia. As for further development of information technologies, business entities will design unique IT-products, systems and technologies for managing them through the availability of their own bases of components provided quality criteria are met. The proposed approach underlies the strategy for the U.S. leadership in IT.
Conclusions and Relevance Business entities cannot reach competitive advantages of innovation and IT leadership if they fail to control the global infrastructure of information space. The article indicates the main categories of such control and specific options for exercising it.
