Importance Substance of the current development of regions and municipalities should be viewed in terms of the formation and implementation of competitive advantages of territories. The article focuses on theoretical, methodological and practical approaches to setting up the organizational and economic framework for sustainable development of the municipality in line with regional specifics.
Objectives The research substantiates approaches to improving tools involved in the provision of organizational and economic resources for sustainable development of the municipality.
Methods The article analyzes the existing approaches to sustainable development of the municipality, studies theoretical and methodological aspects of the process in national and foreign practices, and involves such general scientific methods as abstraction, analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction and systems approach.
Results We analyzed approaches to setting up the organizational and economic framework of sustainable development of the municipality, formulated practical recommendations for improving the relevant tools. The substance of sustainable development is presented as three mutually related priorities, i.e. environmental security, social fairness and welfare and economic viability. The article also describes the organizational and economic framework for sustainable development, being regarded as a managerial process.
Conclusions and Relevance We proposed the organizational and economic framework for sustainable development of the territory, which would allow for more detailed description of the existing practice of territorial development, effective managerial decisions so to ensure the sustainable development.
