The first pre-University course in the Kemerovo oblast: Results, prospects

Importance Crucial structural change in economy entailed the need to reform the national system of education. The system of pre-University training is not very widely spread, especially in regions. The article evaluates the performance of the Polytechnic Lyceum at the Prokopyevsk Branch of T.F. Gorbachev Kuzbass State Technical University.
Objectives The research analyzes and evaluates prospects for developing the undergraduate applicants' training in lyceums guided by universities.
Methods The research relies upon questionnaire methods used to survey pupils in secondary schools, and comparative evaluation of indicators.
Results We analyzed the Lyceum's performance since its establishment, substantiated the need in its further activities and development of the network of pre-University training courses nationwide. The survey embraces ten schools (872 pupils).
Conclusions and Relevance The research identifies positive results of the above activities of the Polytechnic Lyceum of the Prokopyevsk Branch of T.F. Gorbachev Kuzbass State Technical University. The survey data provided the rationale for developing pre-University training courses nationwide. The findings can be used by students and those working in higher schools to justify the need in pre-University training courses.
