Importance The article discusses sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation.
Objectives I analyze the substance of sanctions and respective import substitution matters in the Russian Federation. The article combines fragmented data in public sources so to make up the information that would provide a better understanding of the nexus between sectoral sanctions and import substitution processes in the Russian Federation.
Methods Using systems and statistical methods, I analyzed aspects of the crisis and sanctions on import substitution processes in Russia within 2014–2016.
Results The article presents analytical information on economic and financial indicators of the import substitution program in the Russian Federation.
Conclusions and Relevance To provide the market and consumers with products that would be competitive with imported ones in terms of price and quality, the country should create conditions for effective performance and development of human, investment, scientific and production capabilities. As seen in Russia for the recent time, the import decline results from special-purpose economic policies of the State to support the Russian producers of goods. The results can be applicable to scientific disciplines of economic universities. They also can be used as guidelines for financial and other institutions.
