Importance Gold reserves have been shrinking globally for the recent years. Therefore, gold-mining companies direct their feet towards gold resources of Siberia and the Far East. Gold reserves are mainly found in ore deposits. Hence, it is very important to examine methods and approaches to exploring ore deposits in Northeast Russia that are rich in gold.
Objectives The research evaluates the potential for forming the Northeastern interregional gold-mining cluster.
Methods Having overviewed and analyzed foreign and national literature, and examined the current status of the sector to assess the potential for clustering gold-mining sectors, we used the methods that were based on localization coefficients and production per capita.
Results Resulting localization coefficients and production per capita demonstrate a high potential for forming the Northeastern interregional gold-mining cluster.
Conclusions and Relevance If the Northeastern interregional gold-mining cluster is organized as a new form of corporate production, it would contribute to higher competitiveness of entities working in the cluster, improve financial mechanisms for investment programs and projects, ensure reliable supply of energy and transport to new gold-mining enterprises, increase the profitable part of budgets with tax proceeds to local budgets, budgets of both constituent entities and the country as a whole, raise the employment rate and create new workplaces.

Keywords: gold, Russian North-East, cluster, localization, production per capita
