Subject The article deals with the issue of ensuring the economic security in the energy sector. The fuel and energy complex (FEC) is the research object. Objectives The goal of the research is to develop a mechanism for ensuring the economic security in the energy sector. Methods For the study, I used methods of statistics, analysis, and a systems approach. Results I present a mechanism of FEC economic security ensuring as a complex interaction of federal, territorial, executive, and legislative Government bodies and enterprises. The paper defines the functions of the mechanism's each particular element. As well, the paper proposes solutions to the problems identified in the energy industry. Conclusions and Relevance I draw a conclusion that the solution of the security tasks will become effective if FEC enterprises can flexibly adapt to the changing internal and external conditions. The mechanism contributes to complex interaction of all authorities and enterprises to counter threats, and it can be used in a single system of economic security of the region.
