Subject The article deals with the issues of economic security as the security of the country and as an independent scientific area. Objectives The paper aims to analyze the conceptual apparatus of the National Security Strategy of the Russian Federation; clarify the place of economic security in the RF national security structure types; assess the economic component within the strategic national priorities. Methods For the study, we used methods of institutional analysis, comparison, and decomposition. Results We found and show certain contradiction between the actual legal status of economic and energy security and the national security requirements, as provided for by the Constitution and legislation of the Russian Federation. As well we found that the Strategy, while presenting the elements that characterize or define the national security status, is inconsistent to some extent. Conclusions We conclude that the New National Security Strategy of the Russian Federation consolidates more elegant interpretations of the basic concepts than the previous version. Economic security is found officially recognized as a kind of the national security of the Russian Federation.
