Importance The article overviews and describes types and contents of non-credit ratings of commercial banks, methodological approaches to their preparation and implementation.
Objectives The research analyzes the contemporary theory and practice of non-credit rating assignment to commercial banks, substantiates the evident need to improve it, devises new ratings of commercial banks' performance and efficiency of banking products.
Methods We applied a logic abstraction, actor-target and comparative methods of research to attain the goal and substantiate the reasonableness of theoretical and practical recommendations and provisions.
Results We systematized and described non-credit ratings assigned to commercial banks. Two types of ratings were pointed out in terms of characteristics of the target to be ranked, i.e. performance of commercial banks and efficiency of banking products; and in terms of a rating assessment method, i.e. ratings by comprehensive indicators and ratings by a certain fundamental indicator. We analyzed results of scientific researches and Russian practices of assigning non-credit ratings to commercial banks, their products and services. The article demonstrates new approaches are needed to form ratings of commercial banks, which would allow for a comprehensive evaluation of commercial banks' performance and terms for delivery of banking products and services.
Conclusions and Relevance Illustrating commercial banks' practices of deposits, we devised two rating models, i.e. bank rating on the basis of deposit placement terms and ratings of deposits provided by banks. We observed commercial banks operating in the Volgograd oblast to test methods for implementation of models and rating assessment.
