Objectives The research examines socio-economic indicators of the Chechen Republic for the 2009–2013 period. I identify the main threats to the region's economic security and provide recommendations for their elimination. I analyze 26 baseline indicators of official statistics aggregated into five groups, determine the scale of criteria thresholds to assess the economic security, devise an algorithm for managing the region's economic security, analyze, substantiate results and formulate recommendations for eliminating the threats to the region's economic security. Methods Using the integral method, I analyzed the socio-economic development of the Chechen Republic for the period of 2009 through 2013, and determined thresholds of integral ranges in the scale, which is used as a criterion to assess the region's economic security. Results The region demonstrates stable socio-economic indicators, i.e. demographic growth, population consolidation processes and the level of recovery of the economy and social sector. However, increasing social differentiation, prices for goods and services, high financial and food dependence, corruption and bribery engender additional threats to the region's economic security. Conclusions and Relevance The Chechen Republic had not demonstrated economic stability for 2009–2013. However, it is possible to observe positive trends in key macroeconomic indicators, thus implying a favorable mid-term economic forecast of the region's development. The article presents the algorithm for the region's economic security management.
