Importance The current socio-economic development of Russia requires revising our views on the business development process by implementing fundamentals of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Objectives The research comprehensively analyzes the key criteria of socially responsible behavior of businesses. Methods The methodological framework is based on a dialectical method, historical and logic unity, empirical summary, structural and functional analyses, traditional techniques of economic analysis and synthesis, and specific methods for evaluating CSR criteria trends (expert assessment). The research also involves some tools of a system analysis. Results I determined criteria of socially responsible business operations, which were suggested to split into four groups, i.e. labor, social partnership, salary, labor protection. The article evaluates the living standards of the population, identifies priority features customers consider for their purchases, and examines the national specifics of business ethics. The article also describes a set of activities for the environmental protection. Conclusions and Relevance I conclude that strict compliance of businesses with the Social Responsibility requirements constitutes a key competitive mechanism, which is a starting point for sustainable development. Socially responsible businesses should focus their efforts on implementing the criteria in question. The findings can be actively used when ranking socially responsible businesses and formulating codes of ethics.
