Importance The article focuses on this vital issue since drug threats have reached the scale of international terrorism and local wars for the recent decade.
Objectives The research pursues modeling a drug abuse situation, forecasting how it may progress, and outlines proposals on how to counter illegal drug trafficking in Russian regions.
Methods The research relies upon econometric modeling and multivariate linear regression analysis, identifies regions which are dramatically affected with drug addiction, and determines the most effective activities for combating drug addiction.
Results As the drug addiction forecast shows, illegal drug trafficking will intensify, with the use of heavy and synthetic drugs increasing. There are more drug addicts who needs professional medical aid, social assistance and consistent rehabilitation, psychological and pedagogical treatment. The proposed monitoring, modeling and forecasting mechanism will enable timely State regulation.
Conclusions and Relevance Countering illegal drug trafficking should draw upon preventive measures that help decrease the level of drug addiction in the society.
