Importance Whereas the Eurasian region generates numerous integration projects, being regional components of the global strategy for setting up intercontinental integration associations, it is more and more practicable to intensify integration processes and determine the would-be members of the Eurasian Economic Union.
Objectives The research analyzes the specifics of ensuring the economic security of the EEU States assuming that the leading countries form global zones of free trade.
Methods The research employs such general scientific methods as analysis and synthesis, specification and generalization, historical, logic and systems approaches.
Results I determined the main difficulties in, and areas for intensifying integration within the EEU, while alternative models of Eurasian integration are being formed. I found threats of forming other integration organizations for the EEU, specified approaches to the content of the principles of openness, sovereignty, equality and economic pragmatism as declared in the EEU Agreement.
Conclusions and Relevance Considering the competition with alternative integration projects in the Eurasian Economic Area, which are implemented by the European Union, USA, People's Republic of China, Turkey, the Eurasian Economic Union, if set up on the principles of new regionalism and active involvement into global integration processes, may erode the single economic space, industrial complex, transit area of the EEU. It necessitates limiting the potential membership of the Eurasian Economic Union with the States of the former USSR, modernizing the customs rules and tariffs to regulate foreign trade, forming the single customs regulation mechanism that would outline the single understanding of the EEU economic security.

Keywords: foreign trade, globalization, Eurasian Economic Union, integration, customs regulation
