Importance The analysis of the economic situation shows that globalization processes are forming the most large-scale system's challenges to the economic security of the Russian Federation. These challenges recently acquired even greater relevance against the background of the current tense situation in the territory of Ukraine and in the world at large. Objectives The purpose of the present study is a draft of comprehensive economic security of Russia, which is now extremely vulnerable. The main way to solve the problem is the country's time to a new stage of economic development in the framework of the sixth wave of innovation. Methods The article reveals the problem of modern economic-political situation from the point of view of security of the Russian Federation; discovers the causes of the 'hybrid' military conflict in the territory of Ukraine. The paper shows that the latter aims at extreme weakness of the Russian economy in connection with the country's course of development, i.e. Eurasian integration and the rehabilitation of economic sovereignty. Results The author proposes an effective mechanism for substitution of external sources of credit to internal ones that would enable the Russian Federation to avoid external pressure expressed in limiting its presence in the world capital market, avoid strengthening of the negative tendencies in the development of the economy, increase of scarce credit resources, increasing the risk of defaults of borrowing companies. Conclusions and Relevance The article shows the need to improve the full protection of the economic security of the country, namely the development of global programs of import substitution and the deployment of a strategic planning system with the control of the President of the Russian Federation. In addition, the transition of society to the knowledge economy is absolutely urgent, so the country's economy could proceed to the innovation way of development while increasing the role of Science in economics and public administration.
