Importance In connection with the crisis in the Russian economy, imposing sanctions on Russian companies and industries the problem of ensuring protection of the population and domestic producers by customs instruments is becoming increasingly important. Objectives The objective of the study is to analyze the current state of the mechanism of customs regulation of foreign trade activities in Russia and the search for ways to increase its effectiveness in terms of accession to the World Trade Organization and enhancing integration within the Eurasian Economic Union. Methodology As research tools in the work scientific methods, such as analysis and synthesis, historical, logical and systematic approach were used. Results The main problems and ways of improving the mechanism of customs regulation of foreign trade activities in Russia in terms of Russia's participation in the World Trade Organization and the transformation of the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan in the Eurasian Economic Union are indicated. Conclusions and Relevance It is concluded that in the context of Russia's membership in the World Trade Organization and activation of integration processes in the post-Soviet space of fundamental importance for the concerted efforts of the state regulatory, institutional, economic, informational support of the national mechanism of customs regulation of foreign trade activities in Russia. The key directions of modernization, identified in the article, are the following: the coordination and synchronization of the procedures of entry into the World Trade Organization of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, the unification of the basic parameters of customs and tariff regulation, unification of the development strategy of the transit potential of the Eurasian Economic Space, the development and application of modern technologies of customs control and interaction customs authorities and participants of foreign economic activity.
