Importance In the current context, the question of the balance of power between the countries and regions of the world in geo-economic and geopolitical space again assumes its relevance. The US economy is rapidly losing its authority in the global system. Some countries of the European Union suffer from the crisis in its development. Every year, the countries of the Asia-Pacific Region consolidate their positions in the geo-economic space.
Objectives The paper aims to study the causes and consequences of the bipolar system's collapse in the geo-economic space, and also the formation of a new configuration of the global economic structure.
Methods As a methodological framework, I used historical and logical, statistical and comparative analyses, the method of scientific abstraction, which enabled to determine the positions of two superpowers (the Soviet Union and the United States) in the geo-economic sphere, and to identify the main factors which have had a negative impact on the Soviet economy.
Results I have built a graphical model of the bipolar system, designated the causes and contradictions which resulted in its disintegration, and made a conclusion that in the period of the bipolar world, the positions of the USSR economy and the allied socialist States were more stable in terms of the economic and political aspects. My paper shows that the bipolar system's collapse has led to a completely different arrangement of forces in the global social and economic sphere.
Conclusions and Relevance I emphasize that in the medium term, the national economy needs to shape a powerful economic and political block with the group of BRICS countries, or within the framework of EurAsEC countries in the conditions of the worsening the geo-economic and geopolitical relations in the world. These actions will allow providing an economic security of the national economy, in general, and of the partner States, in particular.
