Importance We deal with food security of the country taking into account planning and forecasting of the activities directions of the regional economic entities and economic entities operating in the nation-wide economy, in general. The relevance of this research topic is very high, since the food security is a significant component of the national security system. Objectives The main purpose of our paper is to study the possibilities of using the innovation models of planning and forecasting of economic entities to ensure the food security of regions. Our main goal is also to study the problems of ensuring the food security of regions and factors of influence, and to reveal the methodology of using the update and innovation tools for planning and forecasting of economic entities' activities (foresight design, crowdsourcing). Methods We used the methods of theoretical, functional and organizational-economic analyses and long-term forecasting. In addition, we used modern innovation in the planning and forecasting the functioning and development of business entities. We highlighted the foresight design and crowdsourcing. Results At the present time, protection of the vital interests of individuals and society, which is a key element of food security, assumes the most important direction of the national economy development. Ensuring food security at the regional and federal levels starts with the proper organization of forecasting needs for food resources and planning to ensure their end-users. Conclusions and Relevance Our paper is the development of scientific ideas about modern methods of organization of forecasting and planning procedures, and it can be used to develop regional food security through the use of innovation models for planning and forecasting of their activities. In particular, we propose to use the technology of foresight design and crowdsourcing.
