Importance The successful activities of any enterprise require stable investment flows capable to provide a specified level of the development and competitiveness. However, the current status of the domestic agriculture reinforces considerably the importance of problem of attracting the investment resources in this sector of the economy. Objectives The study aims to find the rationale of the investment attractiveness of agricultural enterprises of a region. In accordance with this objective, we make an analysis of the current level of the components of investment attractiveness of agricultural enterprises in a region, which include as follows: the financial performance; capacity of the workforce; the market environment. We made an effort to identify, in terms of investment, the most attractive territories of the Saratov region, and to determine their place in the classification in accordance with the achieved rankings. We also assess the prospects of investment by municipalities of the Saratov region. Methods In the article, by means of economic and statistical methods we analyzed the indicators of investment attractiveness of agricultural enterprises in the region, assessed their dynamics and also conduct identification by grouping of the administrative districts of the region in accordance with the ranking. In the course of the analyzed period, we noticed the considerable decline of the financial independence of agricultural enterprises, decline of profitability of assets, decline of the share of net assets and the share of the State property, decline of the average number of employees, and low levels of labor motivation. However, there is the distinctive process of the regional differentiation of administrative districts of the region along the analyzed parameters. Results By analyzing the financial condition as the component of investment attractiveness of the agricultural enterprises, we have classified the administrative districts of the Saratov region in accordance with the assigned ranking, and have defined the groups of leaders, outsiders, as well as the areas, which assume the various intermediate levels. Relevance We believe that this classification will help investors to identify areas that to the fullest extent possible meet the requirements, goals and objectives of one or another investment project.
