The article analyzes the scientific validity of the term "post-Soviet space". The author points out that the logic of the research is based on the assumption that the space is always subjective, and it is necessary to answer the question about the subject of the particular space. The post-Soviet space is a kind of the terra nullius ("no man's land"), because its subject is missing. The paper demonstrates that certain consistent patterns are intrinsic for the operation of any economic space. The author emphasizes that these consistent patterns do not manifest themselves on the territory of the former USSR. The paper maintains that one cannot give evidence of the existence of a common economic space within the territory of the former Soviet Union. The author adheres to the opinion that it is rather more adequate to use the term "post-Soviet territory".
