The article deals with some of the latest techniques and possibilities to influence the political and economic stability in Russia coming from international fundamentalist religious organizations and movements, as well as new features and manifestations of religious extremism and ethnic conflicts. The authors reveal the theoretical and practical aspects directed at improvement of the whole complex of measures aimed at preventing destabilization of the situation and countering the extremist forces from abroad and within the regions of the Russian Federation. The article substantiates the necessity of use of a system of ideological, political, law-making and enforcement techniques to further improve the performance of the state law enforcement agencies to counter extremism and terrorism.
