The authors review the main characteristics of socio-economic development of the Volga Federal District. The authors provide the comparative analysis of the regions; they assess the degree of regions differentiation according to the main economic and social indicators. The authors analyze the possibilities of region differentiation reduction and put forward a proposal on providing the region sustainable development.
