The article examines the newest trends in the U.S. military strategy in the High North as well as its implications for the Russian Federation's national security. The author makes critical analysis of the U.S. conceptual/doctrinal basis for its military policies in the region. The paper discusses the issue whether the current bias of Washington's Arctic strategy to the use of military/coercive methods and instruments is serious or not. The authors study the effects of the present-day U.S. course on the Russian positions in the region as well as development of the Russian Arctic zone.
