The article analyzes the conditions of development of tourism and recreation activities on a global scale in the Russian Federation and its regions (for example, the Pskov region). Recommendations on intensification of the process of development of tourist and recreation cluster, based on the analysis of cultural, historical and geographical features of the region. It is shown that innovation renewal increase the region's competitiveness in the tourism sector and will contribute to the socio- economic growth and development of the region as a whole.
