In the article the importance is emphasized and the main characteristics of fuel and energy sector for regional economy are submitted; the special attention is paid to a question of its greening. On the example of the Vologda region the analysis of restrictions and obstacles for transition of fuel and energy complex to a new, "green" course is carried out. For ensuring ecological safety in the Russian regions introduction of alternative power engineering is offered.
