In the article the need for greater government incentives for environmentally friendly development of the border regions is analyzed. Functional and geopolitical approaches to the management of economically sound development of frontier subjects of the Russian Federation are proposed. It is noted that the formation of an effective system of control border regions is the basis to enhance their economic potential.
