Third energy package and problems of gas supply of the European Union

The main trends in power consumption of the European Union (EU) are investigated, the growing importance of natural gas is revealed. The first (1998), the second (2003) and the third (2009) gas instructions of EU are analyzed, their impact on the regional gas market is shown. The special attention is given to policy of providing gas-and power safety of the region, the problems of long-term export and import of natural gas are considered taking into account new market tendencies.
