The article describes differences between economies of various regions in South Russia caused by resource factors which lead to heterogeneity in development patterns for agriculture. Calculations of comparative efficiency estimations at a regional level are presented. Comparative studies of agriculture in southern regions of Russia have been performed using statistical data and nonparametric approach - Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Systemic problems of modern agriculture whose existence is supported, in particular, by efficiency calculations are discussed.
