The impact of the global crisis on socio-economic situation of urban settlements of Russian High North

The results of analysis of socio-economic changes in the Russian northern towns and municipal districts under the impact of global financial crises are presented. The information base for the analysis includes both results of the questionnaire survey of towns’ leaders – participants of the Russian “Union of Towns of Circumpolar North”, as well as statistic indicators of socio-economic development of the towns. Estimations of most acute problems of Russian northern towns are generalized. Main measures for overcoming of the problems and creation of preconditions for sustainable development of the towns of Russian High North are suggested.
