The article discusses the main issues connected to exploitation of mineral resources in the North and the Arctic taking into consideration formation of innovation-oriented economy. Proposals on state support to preservation of the mining industry potential are formulated. Proposals on increasing qualification of managers capable to efficiently manage innovation projects in various fields of exploitation of mineral resources and life-support to northern territories are elaborated.
