This article analyzes the institutional environment of the Russian North. Issues of the Russian legislation concerning Northern regions are considered. The specificity of development of cooperation mechanism between businesses, the government and the society for northern regions is revealed. Some forms of "public-private partnership” (PPP) and such an institution of cooperation as "corporate social responsibility" (CSA) are considered, their important role in sustainable development of the economy of the North is substantiated. The authors recommend some improvements of the legislation for northern regions.
