Creating a full-fledged competitive environment in the country is one of the most pressing problems of today. The solution of this problem is compounded, in addition to administrative and bureaucratic barriers and corruption, the dominance of monopolies in the Russian economy. In this connection, a more detailed study of the role of monopolies in the formation of public welfare, consideration of the principles of their activity will be in demand.
Analysis of the functioning of monopolies can draw some conclusions. First of all, - the monopoly does not follow the cost curve to determine the optimal point of production. Hence, the other feature: in contrast to organizations exposed to competition, a monopoly no need to produce products for lower costs, and use of resources will not necessarily be the most effective. In an underdeveloped socio-economic environment, these negative aspects of monopolies are even more acute.
The ability of society to influence on the activities of monopolies is expressed through the antitrust laws, compensating disparity of market power and balancing between the private and public interests. However, weak social and political life in the country makes it difficult to develop and implement a balanced, efficient state antitrust policy, and does not allow for an objective social control. One desire is not enough to change the situation, we need political will.
