The study of inventive and patent activity in the industry is of great importance for estimation of innovative potential of any country. This paper presents a comparative analysis of the effectiveness of intellectual activity in Russia and leading foreign countries and on the basis of the analysis we evaluate the opportunities and threats to innovation development in Russia.
