Social and economic significance of settlements of urban type in regions of Russia

In a paper features of settlements of urban type - a special category of small urban settlements of Russia are presented. The place of settlements of urban type in demographic potential of different regions of the country is determined. The typology of subjects of the Russian Federation on modern social and economic significance of settlements and change of this significance the last years is conducted. Country regions in which preservation and development of settlements of urban type have the important role for maintenance of social stability and economic safety are chosen.
