The authors demonstrate and prove that Russia has something to protect and somebody to protect from, possessing one of the largest natural-resources potential: 12.5% of the world territory, 22% of woods, 20% of fresh water, 30% of shelf, 15% of the world oil, 55% of natural gas, 12% of coal, over 27% of iron and tin, 40% of platinum metals, and 10% of croplands able to feed over 500 mln people. This wealth is owned by only 3% of the world population. The article deals with intricate and complex processes of strengthening the foundations of the national security.
