Subject. The article addresses the competitive advantages of Germany in the global pharmaceutical market and the growth of performance of its pharmaceutical companies due to the high incidence rate in the world; the specialization of companies and the geography of German pharmaceutical products. Objectives. The aim is to perform a comprehensive study of activities of German pharmaceutical companies, their competitiveness in the world market, specialization of production, and development prospects. Methods. The study employs statistical and cartographic methods, as well as methods of comparative and economic analysis. Results. Through active research and development in pharmaceuticals, Germany occupies a leading position both in the market of generics and originator medicinal products. Germany's main partner and competitor in the field of pharmaceuticals is the United States. The areas of activity of German companies become more diverse as they acquire various businesses: the production of medicines for humans and animals, food additives, care products, medical cosmetics, and other products. Conclusions. The German pharmaceutical industry has a wide range of activities – from the creation of original medicines and generics to the production of cosmetic products. Particular attention is paid to the spread of the influence of German companies abroad, which includes the opening of foreign branches, acquisition of shares in other chemical, biological, and pharmaceutical companies, creation of multinational corporations in the field of pharmaceuticals. The broad scope of the companies' activities contributes to sustainable development of the economy and consolidation of Germany's leading positions in the world market.
