Importance Considering its specific nature, banking competition has been insufficiently described and examined as compared with conventional market competition. There is even a greater lack of information on practical methods for studying banking competition. Objectives The research pursues revealing the specifics of the Russian methods for evaluating the competitiveness of commercial banks and comparing them with foreign ones. Methods The research relies upon methods of comparative analysis, systematization, classification. Results The article provides a comprehensive overview of the current situation in the national banking market and instructs how methods for commercial banks' competitiveness evaluation can be applied. Conclusions and Relevance The research is of scientific relevance since the banking competition in Russia has been insufficiently studied. Many national methods fail to regard competitive aspects of banking products and services. Banks can use only some techniques, since they are based on unavailable information, etc. The article proposes solutions to challenging issues and aspects of most methods.
