Importance The article analyzes the existing migration in the Primorsky Krai, issues of attracting foreign workforce when the population continuously decreases. Objectives The research identifies basic trends in the region's labor migration, evaluates the contribution of labor migrants to the local economy. Methods The research draws upon methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis, collection and calculation of absolute and relative indicators of the region's migration, and compares them as they change. Results I assessed and analyzed changes in the number and composition of labor migrants in the Primorsky Krai within 2007–2014 per type of economic activities and country of origin. The article estimates the percentage of labor migrants out of total employed population in the region per type of economic activities. I found the main trends in attracting foreign high professionals to the region, showed the importance of student migration. Conclusions and Relevance The process of labor migration have a significant impact on the economy of the Primorsky Krai, that allows keeping the balance of the domestic labor market. Whereas five Priority Development Areas are established in the region, the economic development of the region will be impossible without additional labor migrants. In this respect, it necessitates a regional initiative for regulating migration processes, investigating the migration patterns and socializing foreign citizens. The findings may be used to substantiate and develop the regional migration policies.
