Importance The long-term trend of oil price increase, as well the inevitable reduction of oil supplies, make the global civil aviation (and the aircraft industry and energy supply sector as well) search for alternative types of fuel, which could be able to compete with the traditional fuels. This article deals with the problem of forecasting the economic perspectives of the new jet fuel development. The paper considers several "candidates" for alternative fuels and provides a brief comparison of their characteristics. We provide a structure of economic-mathematical equilibrium models in the system of interconnected aviation fuel, aircraft and air transportation markets, if only one type of fuel is available.
Objectives The paper mainly discusses the development of a stationary equilibrium model on the two-sector market: traditional and alternative fuels. It is proved, that such equilibrium does really exist under certain assumptions about the specifics of dependences included in models.
Methods Practically important is the question what place will traditional fuel take, whether it would be superseded by the alternative fuel. In order to answer these and others questions, we carry out a scenario-parametric analysis. We consider the example of some alternative fuel with given generalized techno-economic parameters (in particular, the specific consumption per passenger-km ratio, as well as the supply function coefficients). The offered model allows evaluating and demonstrating the equilibrium production of both types of jet fuel, as well as parameters of equilibrium on passenger air transportation service markets.
Results In the long run, the process of directions of adaptation of new types of aircraft to alternative fuel that enables to use its ability more efficiently assumes its relevance.
Conclusions and Relevance In the process of parametric calculation, the paper considers alternative projects of aircraft (a level of generalized technical and economic parameters, including specific fuel consumption and a level of other operational costs), that would use new fuel, and it also shows the method of their effectiveness comparison.
