Current trends of differential pricing in the pharmacy network

Importance Against the backdrop of declining profitability of the pharmaceutical business in Russia, the need to develop and implement an effective pricing system of sold goods in pharmacies assumes prominence. The validity of the chosen price policy and pricing systems is especially evident in the pharmacy chains through the pharmacies of different categories with a large range of products that are not medicines.
     Objectives The study aims to analyze the contemporary approaches, models and methods of price formation of a product range of pharmacy chains, taking into account the existing features of price formation for the pharmaceutical products and their exposure to the State regulation.
     Methods The study is based on a dialectical method of cognition. Also we have used the methods of analysis and synthesis, comparison and modeling, economic-statistical methods, systematic approach to the assessment of economic phenomena. We have analyzed the algorithm of differential pricing development for the pharmaceutical products, based on the combination of factors of the main client's profile of the network pharmacy, its categories and product range, and the current competitive situation.
     Results We describe the development and implementation of the differential pricing system, which allows obtaining the high business profitability with pricing policy flexibility of a pharmacy chain. Our findings contribute to the methodological frameworks improvement of the efficient pricing development in pharmacy chains' product range in the today's Russian pharmaceutical market.
     Conclusions and Relevance We came to a conclusion that at the present stage of the Russian pharmaceutical market development, the application of differential pricing of the product range for pharmacy chains assumes prominence.
