Quite common is the view that the attempts of a new economic integration of the post-Soviet states cannot be effective and each state should independently strive to integrate into existing international trade, investment, and production and migration system. The author points out that this opinion is explained by the weak growth of mutual exchange. However, the author suggests that the approaches to the analysis of the integration in the post-Soviet space require some correction. Moreover, the paper indicates the possibility and the need to complement the traditional economic criteria by non-economic criteria, which may encourage on-coming traffic even contrary to the rational arguments.
