In the article the human capital is considered as the pivotal resource playing a serious role in economic development of the modern enterprise. Stages of development of scientific researches of this phenomenon are described; the conclusion that this indicator demands all-round consideration becomes and should be characterized by researchers both quantitatively, and is qualitative.
