The comparative analysis of social and economic indexes of regions of Southern federal district is offered that has allowed to reveal the positive and negative factors influencing development of economy of regions. The special attention is given to the Rostov region, its social and economic advantages and lacks. Priority directions of development of the Rostov region are defined.
